EMBU NEWS: MARKET LINKAGES AND KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER IN DAIRY VALUE CHAIN.

Dairy value chain, is an important subsector contributing immensely to economic growth and development in our Country, but faced with several challenges such as milk market, shortage of animal feeds, and low knowledge on animal management among others.

As an intervention, MSEA Embu regional  office participated in the organization and planning of Embu Dairy Expo spearheaded by Embu County Government department of agriculture ,livestock and blue economy in partnership with Kenya dairy board. A one day expo was held at Karlo research center Embu as a culmination of a series of capacity building initiatives which took place within the week across all sub counties.

The theme of the expo was” promoting livestock innovations for sustainable enterprises”. The expo was graced by H.E The Deputy President Hon.Rigathi Gachagua, CS Agriculture and livestock development Hon. Mithika Linturi, Embu county Governor, H.E Cecily Mbarire , Government dignitaries and elected members of National Assembly and County Assembly. The objective of the expo  to create an avenue for farmers to learn, create networks, create market linkages as well as get an exposure of other livestock, fisheries and Agriculture practices that complement Dairy value chain.

MSEA Embu region Assistant Director Enterprise Development Edward Monuru interacts with exhibitors during the Embu Dairy Expo. The Chief Guest, the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua assured farmers of Government commitment in supporting Dairy value chain among other livestock and Agriculture interventions in order to create sustainability and economic value of their endeavours.
