PROMOTING ROAD SAFETY FOR BODABODA OPERATORS IN KILIFI COUNTY

The MSEA Kilifi regional office mobilized Boda boda operators for a sensitization forum on road safety organized by National Government Administration Officers (NGAO). The event, held at the Chief’s office in Bahari division, was attended by the area OCS, the Assistant County Commissioner, the Base Commander, Traffic police, the CECM of Youth and Sport, Unik Driving School, and Youth Fund.

The forum aimed to raise awareness about road safety among Boda boda riders. The area OCS highlighted the importance of road safety and the need to work closely to address frequent security issues. The Base Commander discussed licensing and other requirements for riders, such as helmets and reflectors, to ensure safety standards and legal compliance.

The event emphasized the necessity of up-to-date insurance coverage and valid driving licenses. Riders without proper documentation were warned of potential legal consequences. The CECM of Youth and Sport spoke about enhancing the professionalism of Boda boda riders by promoting safe driving practices, adherence to traffic rules, and good customer service. Unik Driving School stressed the importance of attending driving school, while officers from the Youth Fund encouraged the youth to take and repay loans promptly, explaining the loan process.

The MSEA officers encouraged the formal registration of Boda boda riders into groups or associations to foster a sense of community and ensure better coordination. Additionally, the youth were informed about upcoming MSEA projects, such as National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA).
