MSEA West Pokot regional office visited Siyoi Multi Produce Cooperative Society in Siyoi ward, West Pokot sub-county. The Cooperative has approximately 800 dairy farmer members operating within Siyoi ward.
Through a partnership between the County Government of West Pokot and the World Bank Foundation, the group received a cooler from the County government and pasteurizers and an ATM dispensing machine from the World Bank. Each registered farmer collects about 20 liters per day of raw milk and delivers to the Cooperative for storage and market access since many farmers face market challenges and milk loss due to lack proper storage equipment. The Cooperative supply’s their milk to Brookside Dairy Limited.
The group is in the process of registration and formalization by MSEA to bring on onboard more farmers onboard who will benefit from MSEAs capacity-building training opportunities, increased market opportunities, and opportunities to acquire additional equipment to support the cooperative.
Currently, the Cooperative is processing several products for value addition which include yoghurt, cheese, sour milk (maziwa mala) and pasteurized milk and is looking to venture into butter and ghee production.
